You have a pair of beautiful pair of cowboy boots, say superb Twisted-X boots. Through the years, that beloved pair has been your constant companion in trekking, camping, biking, or just walking around the ol' country road. In fact, these boots might hold some special memories for you.
But even the best boots cannot stand the ravages of use and time. The pair has to give in sometime. Loose stitches, faded colors, chipped or torn leather, detaching outsoles . . . you name it.
During this stage of a pair's life, you may want to throw the boots away. But actually, you don't have to. Instead of throwing it into the trash, you can make use of these old cowboy boots. Here are some ways on how to recycle them.
1) Wear them as usual. Many boots are like wine . . . the older they get, the better they look. Indeed, some people prefer boots that look grungy, faded, and chipped. The boots give off a rugged, manly look and speaks volumes of the wearer's spirit of danger and adventure.
2) Wear them as gardening boots. Old cowboy boots are ideal for working in the garden. They prevent mud and water from soaking up your feet. Their sturdy construction (yes, they are made to be tough even in old age) and thick outsoles provide protection sharp rocks, debris, and twigs that are all too common in gardens. Added protection is provided if the boots have steel toecaps; no sharp gardening tool can penetrate that metal part.
3) Donate them to charities. There are a lot of people, especially in poorer countries in the world, who cannot acquire even the barest of necessities. They go around with their daily lives without or very minimal foot protection. A lot of these less unfortunate people develop infections from puncture wounds on their feet.
Your old boots can truly be a blessing for them. Wouldn't you feel happy you were able to help someone far away?
4) Sell them. A lot of people are looking for cowboy boots. Remember, they are quite expensive, and not many people can afford them. If you sell them at a discounted price during a garage sale, for example, many boot lovers would flock to you.
Also, it would be easier on your part to know that your beloved boots were not thrown away in vain; it just switched owners, and you would take comfort knowing that they are well taken cared of.
5) Turn them into household décor. Yes, why not? Boots are ideal for indoor and outdoor ornaments. For example, place a can that fits inside the boot shaft. Fill it up with some pebbles or soil, put a nice plant in there, and you'd have an outdoor plant pot.
For indoor use, you can dress up your boot and place flowers inside the shaft, turning it into a cool-looking flower vase. You can also buy a pair of identical stuffed toys and stuff them right inside the shaft with their heads peeping out. Now ain't that a cute decoration.
Try these on your old boots!
